Valencia captain Dani Parejo thought he had missed the boat as far as representing his country at full international level was concerned. The 28-year-old, who was a regular in both the Under-19 and Under-21 categories was shocked to find out that he has been called up by Spain for the forthcoming friendlies against Germany and Argentina.
Spain call-up "like something out of a dream" says Parejo
Parejo said he feels nothing but joy and gratitude to be given his first senior call for Spain. "I’m very happy, and very grateful. It’s the reward for a lot of hard work. I’ve got to thank my team mates, the coaching staff, everyone here at Valencia. They’ve helped me to realize a dream”, Parejo told the club’s television channel before revealing how he heard the news. “There were a few of us in the physio room. I didn’t know that the coach was going to give the list today and everyone started cheering then hugging me… you can imagine it… I’m really happy because everything is coming together – the team’s doing well, sensations are positive and it’s been a magnificent season so far for all of us. It’s a dream to be called by Spain. Now, I just have to enjoy it and make the most of the opportunity. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to play. I will be very proud to put in the national team shirt and represent my country – who wouldn’t love to play at a World Cup?”.
